WAR, INC.

Directed By Joshua Seftel

Review By Shane Morton

I thought I was going to be very late. I had to get from Union Square and the press office quite away below Tribecca. This would be the one and only time I would leave the East Village to see a film or attend an event elsewhere.  A lot happened in Tribeca, but the films I chose to see were not there. However, to see War, Inc. I had to take 2 subways & walk over towards the Hudson at the BMCC. I knew I was gonna be late….

I was the fifth person in the door, and arrived early. I sat in the center of a beautiful & spacious theatre.

I really was not sure what kind of film I was going to see. It seemed that this was going to be a tongue-in-cheek, sardonic look at war, commercialism & the Middle East. After watching this very funny and over the top movie, I was surprised to actually believe there were a lot of truths tucked away within this movie.

War, Inc. is about a corporate/government hit man who comes to a fictional Middle Eastern country that America has declared war upon and has completely decimated it. America, instead of sending the Army to fight & “save” this country, sends in a private organization with their private army, etc….

What follows is one man’s journey to assassinate a foreign oil magnate and find himself in the chaos that of course ensues.

Strong performance from the always fantastic John Cusack, Marisa Tomei & Hilary Duff propel this film with one laugh after another. But it is the comedic genius of Joan Cusack that steals this film. And, yes, Ben Kingsley is dead on as a paraplegic megalomaniac.

The story is well paced and written. Director Joshua Seftel knew the kind of film he wanted to make, and did not disappoint.

War, Inc. is a hilarious ride that will also make you think. Maybe that’s a good thing.
